MSPE Issues Update
Presented by: John Condie, PE and Chris Cruickshank, P.E.
Program Description: John and Chris will speak on Qualifications based Selection (QBS), and a bill for it which is currently being considered by our State legislature. They will discuss the origins of QBS, where it is in the legislative process, and provide you with the information you need to make a convincing "elevator speech" to anyone that will listen.
Biography: Chris received his Bachelor’s Degree from Michigan Tech and his Master’s Degree from the University of Detroit. He currently serves as a Senior Project Manager, Technical Services Team Leader and Corporate Secretary for Prein & Newhof. His areas of specialty include geotechnical engineering, construction materials evaluation and environmental assessment of properties. Chris is a past president of MSPE’s Western Chapter, currently serves as Chairman of our Professional Practices Committee and heads up our annual Golf Outing. On the state level, he currently serves as the Chairman of the MSPE PAC Committee. He has been married to his wife Kim for 32 years and they are the proud parents of five children and one grandchild.
John Condie, PE is a Senior Vice President and Senior Electrical Engineer at Fishbeck, Thompson, Carr & Huber, Inc. He is responsible for supervising the design of power distribution, lighting, building systems, instrumentation, and controls for water, wastewater, and industrial facilities. He is involved in day-to-day corporate operations and management as a member of FTCH's Management and Executive Committees. John received a BSEE degree from Grove City College (Grove City, PA) in 1988. He has been active member of MSPE since moving to Grand Rapids in 1995, and served as President of the Western Chapter and of the State Society. Currently he is a member of MSPE's Legislative and Governmental Affairs Committee and PAC Trustee.
Also - Meet the new MSPE Executive Director, Shada Biabani, at the May 4th chapter meeting.
She will introduce herself to the group and give a quick talk about what MSPE is doing at the State level.
Shada Biabani is currently serving as the Executive Director for the Michigan Society of Professional Engineers (MSPE). Prior to joining MSPE, she spent six years as the Director of Marketing and Administration for the Michigan Aggregates Association (MAA). While with MAA she handled all aspects of marketing, member services, event planning and office administration. Before joining MAA, Biabani owned a small public relations and marketing agency for 12 years. The agency specialized in publication development and design and worked with various trade associations and private businesses. During that time, Biabani developed and managed a regional lifestyles magazine, Life in the Middle of Michigan, for 10 years.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Michigan State University and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Central Michigan University. Shada, her husband David, and children Evan and Tara reside in St. Louis, MI.
