2007-2008 Legislative Accomplishments

MSPE is working hard to protect professional engineers through it strong legislative affairs program. Engineers should feel comforted to know that they have a voice in Lansing when it comes to all matters affecting licensed professional engineers.

In the 2007-2008 Legislative Session, our increased penalties bill was passed and Governor Granholm signed it into law (Public Act 319 of 2008).

The bill adds language to MCL 339.601 and creates significant fines and imprisonment if an individual is found guilty of practicing as an architect, professional engineer, or a professional surveyor without a valid license. This was a huge victory for licensed professional engineers. Those choosing to practice without a professional license will now face serious fines and possible imprisonment. A third offense is a felony.
