This award is funded from income from a capital contribution made to the Scholarship Trust Fund by the MSPE 1980 NSPE Annual Meeting Committee. The Committee was responsible for planning and implementing a highly successful NSPE Annual Meeting held at the Detroit Plaza Hotel, July 1980.

MSPE Calvin College
James P. Bosscher
One (1) Grant/$2000/One Year
Calvin College, a liberal arts college in Grand Rapids, is owned and operated by the Christian Reformed Church. Engineering courses have been available since 1937 and a B.S. Degree in engineering since 1985. Concentrations are available in civil, chemical, computer, electrical and mechanical engineering. Approximately 25 percent of the graduates go on to graduate school. In addition, Calvin graduates are also accepted into graduate programs as diverse as aerospace engineering, ocean engineering and bio-medical engineering. Concern for ethical and responsible design is emphasized within a broad cultural context. The multi-faceted and multi-valued nature of the engineering function is given shape and focus within the basic structure of a Christian liberal arts experience.

MSPE Kettering University
One (1) Grant/$1500/One Year
Kettering University, formerly GMI Engineering and Management Institute, is a private college located in Flint. Kettering offers five-year, cooperative education programs leading to B.S. degrees in applied mathematics, applied physics, computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, environmental chemistry, industrial engineering, management, manufacturing systems engineering and mechanical engineering. All students must be accepted academically by Kettering University and then by a sponsoring business or organization. More than 470 businesses and corporations sponsor Kettering University students.
All Kettering University students alternate 12 weeks of academic study on campus with 12 weeks of practical work experience at their sponsoring units. Students are paid during their work experiences and freshmen students gross earnings average $8400.
The recipient of the scholarship will be selected from the freshman class. Selection is based on scholastic achievement, especially in mathematics and science courses.

MSPE Grand Valley State University/Padnos Engineering
One (1) Grant $1000/One Year
Grand Valley State University (GVSU) is a comprehensive public university with approximately 20,000 students serving West Michigan. With campuses in Allendale, Grand Rapids and Holland, Michigan, GVSU is located in an area with a strong manufacturing flavor. All students in the Padnos School of Engineering participate in an integrated cooperative education program. GVSU offers an ABET accredited Bachelor of Science in Engineering with mechanical, electrical, manufacturing and computer emphasis.
The scholarships are provided through funding from the Seymour and Esther Padnos Endowment.
Student Eligibility: Applicants must be high school seniors intending to pursue a degree in engineering on a full-time basis and must have been admitted to Grand Valley State University.
Terms: One $1000 freshman scholarship will be offered.

MSPE Lawrence
Technological University
Two (2) Grants/$2000 each/One year
Lawrence Technological University is a private college enrolling approximately 4500 students, which specialize in engineering, arts and sciences, management and architecture. It is know for its close industry and business ties and the excellence of its undergraduate programs. The Engineering School offers Bachelor Degrees in civil, computer, electrical and mechanical engineering, which emphasize the broad professional aspects of the field and the fundamental knowledge upon which it is based. Significant areas of specialization are provided within these programs in response to needs of industry and student interests. A co-op program is available to qualified sophomore, junior and senior students and many students who are employed in the surrounding community or on campus in faculty research projects.

MSPE Michigan State University

The College of Engineering at Michigan State University (MSU) provides alternate paths of study leading toward the B.S. Degrees. In addition to the modern courses of study in each of the professional engineering fields of biosystems, chemical, civil, electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, materials science and engineering, there are also strong, flexible programs in computer science, mechanics and engineering arts. A program in cooperative education enables students to alternate periods of full-time study with full-time employment in meaningful engineering jobs.

MSPE MSU, B. Charles Tiney Memorial

The Michigan Engineering Society (MES), and MSU established a memorial scholarship in memory of B. Charles Tiney, a civil engineer. MES was established in 1887 and is the oldest engineering society in Michigan.

MSPE Hancore-Amundson MSU Biosystems Engineering Scholarship for
Freshmen Biosystem Engineers
One (1) Grant/$1000/One Year
The $1000 Hancore-Amundson Scholarship is awarded annually to an incoming freshman with an interest in the biosystem engineering profession. The profession provides opportunities for individuals with an interest in mechanization, automation, and energy systems; water, oil and climatic resources; structure and related environmental control; storage and handling of agricultural commodities and process of food and fiber.
Recipients of the award are selected based on scholastic achievement, especially in mathematics and science courses.

MSPE Michigan Technological University
Two (2) Grants/$1500 each/One year
Michigan Technological University (MTU) is located in Houghton on Upper Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula. MTU offers degrees in chemical, civil, electrical, environmental, geological, mechanical, metallurgical and mining engineering and a program that allows for other specialties. An active cooperative education program, offering experience in industry, is optional. MTU's program places special emphasis on design, manufacturing, materials, minerals and the environment. Its graduates are widely sought by industry.
In addition to its undergraduate programs, MTU offers M.S. and Ph.D.degrees in all areas of engineering.

MSPE Oakland University
Two (2) Grants/$1500 each/One year
Oakland University offers Baccalaureate programs in computer, electrical, mechanical and systems engineering, as well as in computer science through its School of Engineering and Computer Science. In addition, the school offers engineering physics and chemistry programs jointly with the College of Arts and Sciences. The school is located in Dodge Hall, a modern structure with extensive laboratory facilities. Oakland University is located midway between Rochester and Pontiac, and is 45 minutes from downtown Detroit.

MSPE Saginaw Valley State GM Endowed
One (1) Grant/$2000 each/One year
Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) engineering programs are small, of high quality, offer personal attention and graduate job placement is excellent. Co-op experiences are widespread to provide employment experiences and tuition support. Eligibility criteria include academic achievement, character and leadership potential. This scholarship is for first-time-in-college or first-time-transfer students who will study electrical or mechanical engineering.

MSPE University of Detroit-Mercy
One (1) Grant/$1000/One year
The University of Detroit-Mercy is a private, coeducation, Jesuit-Sisters of Mercy university. The University's College of Engineering and Science provides degree programs in chemical, civil, electrical, mechanical, and plastics/polymer engineering. The college offers a Bachelor of Engineering degree with concentration in selected nontraditional areas such as engineering management and automotive engineering. The later programs have not been submitted for accreditation. Excellent facilities and a small student/teacher ratio ensure maximum opportunities for learning.
The college features a four-year program, that includes a year in industry (co-op), where students gain practical experience and valuable insights in career objectives and opportunities. The cooperative education program begins in the term following the sophomore year, and provides alternating periods of training in industry, business or government with periods of classroom study. Students generally complete three, four-month periods with their co-op employers.

MSPE University of Michigan-Ann Arbor

The University of Michigan (U of M) was established in 1817. The College of Engineering was established in 1895, and its first engineering degree was awarded in 1857. It has 10 engineering departments: aerospace, atmospheric, oceanic and space sciences, chemical, civil, electrical engineering and computer science, industrial and operations, materials science and engineering, mechanical and applied mechanics, naval architecture and marine and nuclear. It grants the Baccalaureate degree in 12 different areas, of which 11 are ABET accredited.
In addition to strong undergraduate programs in engineering, the college has highly recognized graduate programs in the traditional areas, and specialized graduate programs such as bioengineering and applied physics. Like the University itself, the College of Engineering is recognized as one of the highest ranked schools in the U.S., enrolling 4000 undergraduate and nearly 1800 graduate students. Strong support for both undergraduate and graduate programs come from its annual funded research of some 50 million dollars per year.

MSPE Michigan Bell Telephone Co.,
U of M, Hazel Quick, P.E., Memorial

The Michigan Bell Telephone Company and the U of M, College of Engineering established a scholarship in memory of Dr. Hazel Irene Quick, P.E. to be awarded to a high-potential, female, high school senior majoring in engineering.
Dr. Quick was the second woman to graduate from the U of M, College of Engineering and was the first licensed woman P.E. in Michigan. She spent her entire career with the Michigan Bell Telephone Company, retiring as a senior engineer in 1950. Michigan Bell Telephone provided communication service in the state.
She received an honorary Doctor of Engineering degree from Lawrence Institute of Technology in 1959.

This grant is supported through contributions of the family of Raymond P. Elliott, P.E., friends and members of MSPE and the U of M.
Preference will be given to a student interested in civil engineering and a resident of the Grand Rapids/Southwestern Michigan area.

MSPE University of Michigan-Dearborn
Two (2) Grants/$1000 each/One Year
The U of M has a long history of education excellence, innovation, and service to Michigan citizens. This tradition is expressed in the U of M-Dearborn. Since its founding in 1959, U of M-Dearborn's mission has been to provide an easily accessible, full service undergraduate university campus with high standards of excellence, at low costs to the student.
The 200-acre campus includes a new manufacturing systems engineering laboratory building, which provides state-of-the-art education and research facilities for students, faculty and industry.
The School of Engineering has an undergraduate student population of 1050 in three ABET accredited programs in electrical, industrial and systems, and mechanical engineering. In addition, the school offers B.S. degrees in computer science and in information systems. The CIS Department is a newer unit within the School of Engineering.
The school also offers graduate degree programs leading to MSE or MS in the following disciplines: computer, computer and information science, electrical, engineering management, industrial and systems engineering, manufacturing systems, mechanical and joint MSE/MBA degrees.
The metropolitan location of the campus affords undergraduate students in the School of Engineering the opportunity to participate in an optional cooperative education program which provides alternating classroom and work experience semesters in a variety of industrial and governmental agencies at both in-state and out-of-state locations.

MSPE Wayne State University

Wayne State University (WSU) is the 18th largest single campus university in the U.S., enrolling more than 34,000 students in undergraduate, graduate and professional programs. The College of Engineering enrolls more than 1,600 graduate students along with approximately 1,400 undergraduate engineering students and 400 undergraduate engineering technology students.
The University is located in the Cultural Center of Detroit at the confluence on 1-94, 1-75, and the John Lodge Freeway. As one of the nations leading urban research universities, WSU actively uses the cultural and industrial resources of the area and encourages joining activities. The College of Engineering has a special interest in the manufacturing and engineering community in southeastern Michigan and the metropolitan area.
The College of Engineering offers Bachelors, Masters and Ph.D. degrees in chemical, civil and environmental, electrical and computer, industrial and manufacturing, materials science and engineering, and mechanical engineering. The University is accredited by North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. A separate engineering technology division provides programs for students with an associate degree in technology from community colleges leading to a B.S. degree in engineering technology.
WSU offers an optional cooperative education program which alternates full-time study terms with full-time work assignments. This program may be entered at the beginning of the junior year.
The college has an active research program which receives more than 12 million dollars a year in federal, state and local government support along with significant industrial support. Research centers are devoted to bioengineering and automotive research.
The college also offers excellent programs in transportation, computer design, composite materials, manufacturing, engineering management, manufacturing, quality and automotive engineering, to mention a few of the special areas of study.

MSPE Western Michigan University

The College of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Western Michigan University continues its commitment to creativity and excellence and has established a reputation for education "job ready" graduates with a firm grasp of both engineering theory and its practical applications.
The college has a total enrollment of almost 3,000 including an undergraduate enrollment of 2,395. It offers BSE programs in aeronautical, chemical, computer, construction, electrical, industrial, manufacturing, materials, mechanical, and paper engineering.
BS programs are offered in engineering graphics and design technology, engineering management technology, industrial design, manufacturing engineering technology, paper science, and printing. The college also offers BS programs in computer science and computer science - theory and analysis. Ten of its undergraduate programs are accredited by the appropriate body (ABET, CSAB/ABET, or NASAD).
In addition, there are 11 masters graduate programs and five doctorial graduate programs. No matter which of the degree programs you choose, you'll get hands-on laboratory experience, individualized attention, a variety of internship and employment opportunities, and a thorough grounding in the use of the same laboratory and computer tools and used by industry.
